Mostly things of a political nature. NOT politically correct and never will be! I say what I think and if that runs against popular opinion that's too bad. It will make you think! (possibly painful if you're a liberal)

Media Bias 101 (The short course)
We've all been beaten to death these past several months about the "housing crisis" by the media. Day after day some doe eyed reporter gets almost tearful as she recounts some horror caused by evil predatory lenders who caused some poor family to lose their home. Okay... granted that makes a lovely human interest story but it barely ranks as news.... unless one has an agenda they are trying to advance.
I've discussed the sub-prime loan issue previously but for those who may have missed it a brief recap: Congress mandated that lending institutions make mortgages available to lower income people. Please note that this was NOT the idea of the lenders! Congress felt it was "unfair" that some people could afford to buy a home but others couldn't.... so they mandated that financial institutions make loans available to people who could not otherwise qualify. Prior to the Congressional meddling the lending institutions operated using a risk assessment model which calculated which potential mortgage clients were acceptable risks and which were not.
Using that same logic Congress should also mandate that States make drivers licenses available to blind people since it's unfair that they not be permitted to drive. In support of their argument they could point to the fact that drive up ATM machines already have braille instructions thus the blind should be able to drive to them. (an oddity that I've yet to figure out)
At any rate the lending institutions had no choice but to comply or have Congress bring the full force of government to bear against them. The ARM (Adjustable Rate Mortgage) came into existence as a result. In theory people with low incomes could now get a housing loan with an interest rate that gradually increased over time. This permitted someone to buy more house than they could afford because the initial payment was so low.
The rest of the theory was that these people were suppose to improve their positions in life, through education or other means, so as to make more money.... so when the rate increase came they would be in a financial position to afford it. Obviously that did not happen. (Perhaps Congress should have mandated it)
Okay.... so with that background we fast forward to the present where, all of a sudden, it's all the fault of the lending institutions and their greed. Notice how Congress isn't even mentioned? As usual they are all standing around like innocent bystanders pointing fingers at the banks. The press totally ignores their roll in this entire matter. What you end up with is an evening news story that goes something like this:
"Today in sunny southern California the American dream came to a tearful end for yet another struggling family as the bank foreclosed on their home. John and Mary X had dreams of watching their three children grow up in that home... but their dreams are all shattered now as they are forced out by the bank. And across America the story is the same as thousands of other families face this same looming crisis."
John and Mary are the "victims" of the evil bank. It's all the banks fault that they are loosing their home. Would John and Mary have qualified for a home loan prior to the Congressional meddling in the industry? Probably not. Banks are in business to make money. [SHOCK!] Thus if they felt that John and Mary were a high risk couple they probably would have been denied a home loan.
Is that evil? Of course not.... it's business and nothing more. Not everyone can afford everything. [yet another SHOCK!] You can afford to buy a car but you probably cannot afford that car to be a Rolls Royce. That's neither fair nor unfair.... it's life 101. Same with housing. Some people can afford a house... some cannot. For those who cannot there are the options to rent, lease, or live in an apartment. You are NOT being denied housing..... that is still available.
Due to the bias of the Media this non-story continues to be painted as nothing more than the greed of evil corporations who have nothing else to do but figure out ways to destroy average American families. Of course because George Bush is President.... and he's a republican... it's all his fault. George Bush wants to destroy average American families and deny them the American Dream. Horse hockey!
Let's suppose, for a moment, that suddenly a democrat is President. (that scares the hell out of me but we need this for the sake of illustration) There is historical proof that the way news is reported changes based solely upon the political affiliation of the person in the oval office. On November 4th 1992, Bill Clinton defeated George H. W. Bush to become the nations 42nd President. All during the Bush years the economy was painted as being a quagmire. The Clinton campaign hammered at the "poor economy" as a reason to elect him and Gore. "It's the economy, stupid!" was a slogan coined by adviser James Carville.
What is amazing is that while the economy was said to have been in the toilet for the entire Reagan and Bush era... less than a week after Clinton won the election suddenly the economy was being reported as doing much better! Bear in mind Clinton wasn't even in the white house yet.... nothing of his administration was even in place..... but the very fact that he was going to be the next occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue somehow caused the whole US economy to do a 180 in a matter of days.
So if we suddenly had a democrat in the white house today.... how might this housing "crisis" be reported? Well.... every coin has two sides. Kinda like the earth and the sun.... which, now that I think about it, makes the perfect illustration! (Sometimes I'm so good I scare myself!) If a republican is in office what is reported on is the side of the earth away from the sun. Day after day story after story about how the darkness persists... gloom everywhere... no end in sight. Put a democrat in the oval office and suddenly the sun is shining and everything is warm and wonderful. And now.... the evening news:
"The good news for home buyers just keeps getting better as prices for existing homes continue to drop. "It's truly a buyers market" says one housing analyst we spoke with today. "The positive fall out of the sub-prime market problem is that we're now seeing a lot of quality houses coming on the market at very reasonable prices." the analyst said. With interest rates near all time lows it looks like the perfect time to consider buying a home. The White House issued a statement saying it was pleased that the American dream was now an affordable reality for more average Americans."
It's the same economy folks and the very same story. The only difference is the political spin put on the subject matter dictated by which party holds the Oval Office. With the main stream media being little more than another wing of the democrat party (and not even apologetic about that any more) it's little wonder that the vast majority of the news being reported carries a negative slant.
Notice how Iraq isn't front page anymore? Ever wonder why? It's because things are going SO well over there that the press has nothing to report! If they did honestly report the situation in Iraq then that would make President Bush and his administration look good.... and they simply can't have that. It's not a part of the news template and it doesn't advance their story line.... so it never sees the light of day.
Mark my words though. IF by some cruel twist of fate a democrat makes it into the oval office we will start to see news of Iraq again. Suddenly all the good news that they are spiking now will find it's way to the front page. It's not the news.... it's what party is in the White House.
END OF COURSE TEST:
Todays main stream media is generally bias in their reporting.
True or False
ANSWER:
If you selected True then give yourself a score of 100 and take the rest of the day off.
If you selected False please go back and re-read this post.... and for God's sake pay attention this time.

Liberal fiction VS scientific fact
Anyone who has been outside lately has probably discovered that it's not all that darn toasty outside. As a matter of fact this is the coolest it's been this time of year for the past 114 years. Thus all that global warming hype wasn't floating too well. Tough to get folks alarmed about stuff heating up while you're reaching for a jacket.
Still the left has shifted gears and now "Climate Change" is the big bug-a-boo we all are supposed to be worrying about. (Question....when was the last time the left wanted us to be happy about something?) [shrug] CO2 has been made out to be this really BAD gas that we just simply have to control before dire things happen atmospherically. (BTW... gases, like guns, are morally neutral.... neither good nor bad... okay)
Fortunately for thinking folks there are sources of information which bring to bear something known as scientific investigation on these matters. Scientific "consensus" is not a legitimate investigatory tool. Nope! In the world of science things must be proven via empirical evidence which is a fancy way of saying to have you be able to formulate an experiment or point to an established data set which can repeatably verify your theory or hypothesis. Also in the world of REAL science it is customary to constantly attempt to DISPROVE the prevailing theory or hypothesis. Theories and hypothesis's become LAWS when they cannot be proven to be false via standard scientific methodology. For the record... NO ONE in the climate change tank has even once attempted to disprove their "theories" on the matter. (I wonder what they fear?)
Blog Spot is home to many. Some pretty normal (and I use the term lightly) folks like myself and others with some genuine big league gray matter. The following link will take you to the blog of a Czech physicist who will enlighten you about CO2.
http://motls.blogspot.com/2006/07/carbon-dioxide-and-temperatures-ice.html
I don't expect everyone to have read that entire blog article at this point. Mr. Motl (A real physicist BTW) has a wonderful knack for being able to simplify things and create verbal illustrations which lead the reader to correct conclusions. If you have the time I'd encourage you to wade through the entire article.... even if that takes a couple of days.
Basically what we're looking at is causality. The Climate Change bunch is attempting to place the root cause of cyclical warming at the feet of CO2. The atmosphere is warmer so CO2 HAS to be the reason and human activity the cause. B follows A so A must cause B.
Let's see how that is wrong. In our example "A" is the fact that it's 6 AM. "B" is the rising sun. Thus the fact that it's 6 AM caused the sun to rise. Correct? If so why doesn't the sun rise at exactly 6 AM every morning? Flawed thinking at it's best.
Mr. Motl also illustrates quite nicely that other atmospheric gas concentrations increased at almost exactly the same rate and at the same time as the CO2 level. Hmmmmmm.... Does that mean that the increase in the CO2 level caused the levels of those other gases to increase? Hardly. When examined as a whole system we note an odd fact the left would prefer that you not be aware of. That painful fact is that an increase in temperature PRECEDED all the increases in atmospheric gas levels...... NOT the other way around.
Look at the earth.... it's roughly 70% water. Water has the ability to hold various gases in solution and the amount of gas held in solution varies with the temperature of the liquid. Warmer liquid holds less gas. Thus.... as the earths oceans warm.... something called "out gassing" occurs. Co2, CH4 and other gases come out of solution and re-enter the atmosphere from which they came originally.
This is the very basic science the left wants you to remain blissfully ignorant of as you blindly fork over additional tax dollars to "prevent" something from happening that is a natural earth process. In the land of the non brain dead this is known as "Follow the money" and also "follow the power". Those attempting to perpetrate this hoax crave both and count on people being sufficiently stupid (and guilty feeling in the case of other Liberals) to fall for this line of crap hook line and sinker. Sorry.... your liberal education (indoctrination) system hasn't yet eliminated all rational thinking people from the American landscape.
Stay tuned! More debunking of Liberal Lies and mythology to come!

Where is the OUTRAGE?
From CNN Anchor Wolf Blitzer
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Whether it was deliberate or not, President Bush now has directly interfered in the Democratic presidential battle in this final stage of the nominating process. His Knesset speech in Jerusalem on the 60th anniversary of Israel’s independence was widely seen as raising serious last-minute warnings about Barack Obama’s foreign policy strategy.
“Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along,” he said, without referring to Obama by name. “We have heard this foolish delusion before.”
And then, the president dropped the bombshell – making the comparison to the appeasement of Hitler and the Nazis.
His remarks were seen as a direct condemnation of Obama’s assertion that he, as president, would be willing to meet directly with the leaders of Iran, North Korea, and Venezuela – among others.
There is no doubt that Obama’s critics, especially Republicans, want to raise questions about his readiness to be commander in chief. They think that his experience is limited. They also say that on many national security issues, he’s a blank slate.
So is the president’s assertion in Jerusalem his way of raising some flags even at this last moment? I don’t know. I do know that those kinds of pointed words don’t get into a carefully-drafted presidential speech without a lot of consideration and discussion.
The above full quoted text is purported to be political journalism by Mr. Blitzer. How DARE the President of the United States make a political comment about the policies of the country he heads! HOW DARE HE!! Especially if democrats disagree!
Oh! Typical of the media arm of the democrat party the President's speech before the Knesset was just over 22 minutes in length. Of that Mr. Blitzer pulls TWO sentences to base an entire article upon. There were roughly 350 comments appended to this brief article but I spared you the tedium of having to wade through their radical left wing deranged rambling. Nearly all referred to the President in some derogatory term, most commented on how "stupid" he is, the majority contained spelling errors, grammatical errors or both.
As for the presumption of the President being stupid. To me it would be well worth the expense to put each and every individual who thinks that way in the cockpit of an F-102 Delta Dagger and have them simply take off and land from an aircraft carrier. Hey! Our "stupid" President can do it... should be a piece of cake for "really smart" people, huh? Unfortunately.... we simply don't have enough of those aircraft for the task..... perhaps we could get one "genius" to pilot and just strap a few dozen lesser intellects on the wings. That exercise alone would probably elevate the average IQ of the country by 15 points.
Now about the title.... Where is the OUTRAGE? What I mean is where is the outrage by the conservatives and the republican (small "r" until they grow a pair) party over this sort of slant journalism? The media and the democrat party have been criticizing and undermining the President's ability to conduct foreign affairs since he was elected! Day in and day out! With the cable channels it a 24/7 non-stop assault of lies, half truths, misstatements, statements taken out of context and just plain old made up stuff if nothing else works.
Every single day there is the usual parade of Liberal talking heads and democrat (small "d" until they grow some brains) politicians on the "news" networks. It's a sickening non-stop hate fest as these mental midgets disparage the administration, it's policies and it's elected leader without ONCE offering a plan beyond surrender and appeasement. Surrender and appeasement seem to be their solution to every international problem. All internal "problems" such as nearly full employment and a booming economy can be solved with massive tax increases... but I digress.
I'm retired military and I can tell you first hand that no one likes going to war. It's a decision no President wants to make or makes lightly. It's a nasty business in nasty places and the costs in both men and material are staggering. That being said the Constitution places upon the President (Commander in Chief) the responsibility of defending both the Constitution and the Nation. The people who proudly volunteer to serve this great country as members of the armed forces all understand that conflict or war is a possibility during their period of service. These are the people who understand fully that some things ARE worth fighting for yet train every day in the hope that their skills will not be needed in conflict.
The folks doing all the bitching and moaning are the sames ones who, every single day, gave all their lunch money to the playground bully. They lacked the intestinal fortitude then to stand for anything and they still display that same lack of self respect. What they offer to try to placate their feelings of inadequacy is loathing for anyone who has the courage and the conviction to stand for something. Why the Vidkin Quisling's and Neville Chamberlain's of this world are propped up as hero's by the left.... even after history has shown their actions to be 100% wrong is beyond me. Yet... the left today still talks of appeasement. It is one of the altars at which the liberal pray.
So long as the left and the Liberals have a stranglehold on both the media and the "education" (indoctrination) system in this country the slant "journalism" and one sided "reporting" will continue. The government schools will continue to crank out brainwashed skulls full of mush who have been force fed the rewritten history of this great nation. Kids are being taught that Ronald Reagan nearly destroyed the world (ended the cold war by confronting the Soviets) while Bill Clinton (blow jobs off the oval office and stained blue dresses) was the greatest President in the history of the world. The first.... a man who loved this country more than anything, lauded it's greatness to the world and had so much respect for the office he refused to even remove his suit jacket while in it! The second... a man who still loves himself more than anything, tears down this country today every chance he gets and disrespected the office enough to drop trow in it. Kids today can't even see the difference. Some education.

Semi-Annual Update
Politics has been the main topic driving the main scream media these past several months. Naturally those folks have been in the tank for the two Liberal candidates which has them in a tizzy. What are they to do? There is the opportunity to elect the first woman president. There is also the opportunity to elect the first black President. (Bill Clinton gets kicked off top billing there if that happens) Unfortunately the woman and the black aren't the same person so they are forced to choose between them. That means making some sort of decision... which is similar to passing judgment. This, of course, means their heads are about to explode since being judgmental is not politically correct.
On the other side of the isle is John McCain who is basically just another liberal democrat. The only difference is that he's wearing a bad fitting elephant suit and is older than the other democrats. We had several viable candidates at the onset of the political season. McCain was anointed by the media (proving he's a liberal) while all the others were either ignored to death or had the typical media hatchet jobs run on them. (Proving they were viable candidates) Media has become just another wing of the democrat party and they really make no bones about that fact. Why this is permitted to continue is beyond me.
The economy has been another driving issue for the media. The more one listens to the main stream media the more one realizes (if their brains still work) that their template is based on WW2 German propaganda. "Tell a lie, tell it often enough.... and it becomes the truth." Every single day the media tells horror stories about how bad the economy is. "Stories" is the optimum term here since there are NO facts to back up anything they say.
Any of you drive a car? Been more than 100 miles from your house lately? Seen any cranes putting up new buildings on your drive? Here in Dallas there were 18 cranes in the downtown area alone earlier this week. In the outlying areas and suburbs the count goes far higher and the total number of square feet of floor space under construction is staggering!
Now then... lets do a simple exercise in economics. (I promise this won't hurt) As a business your main goal is to make a profit for your company and (if applicable) your share holders. Thus you make your business decisions based on the potential to generate a profit. So ask yourself this simple question: IF the economy is really as bad as the media says.... WHY is so much new construction going on? Wouldn't weak economic indicators tell managers and CEO's that it's not a favorable time to make capital investments?
The only conclusion one can come to is that managers and CEO's are seeing a vastly different picture than the one the media is attempting to paint. I've outlined the stock market rise before. The short version is that the market has risen more in 6 years under George W. Bush than is did from its founding until the time he took office! Markets don't do that if there is a giant whirlpool out there sucking the economic life out of the country. Truth is... the economy is going gangbusters! It's so strong it might even be able to withstand a democrat being elected President. (perish the thought!)
"Global Warming" has wained somewhat and is gradually being replaced by the term "Climate Change" since that is far less limiting. Kinda like the difference between having to make a basket from half court or standing on the rim of the grand canyon and seeing if you can hit the hole. Climate Change encompasses literally everything happening globally so far a climate is concerned. What still amazes me that the number of otherwise intelligent people who buy this line of tripe as if it were gospel. (some liken the Global Warming and Climate Change crowd to a religious movement due to their belief in things they cannot prove)
Okay.... another pain free short course on the climate. IT CHANGES! I know... you're all shocked.... but that's just the way it is. Been that way since the necessary gases needed to form an atmosphere accumulated around a cooling chunk of rock soon to be called Earth. SO! We have a group of radicals who realize that
Here is a little test for you climate change idiots. The global climate is such a huge complex thing.... I won't make it that difficult for you.... we'll work on a smaller scale. I live in tornado alley so that's a nice place to start. You say that if we all do our part we can change the climate on a global scale..... or are guilty of already having done that. If you believe that mankind can change climate.... prove it to me. Pick a thunderstorm..... make it easy on yourselves and pick a small one. Now then.... stop it. Nothing fancy... just simply stop one little bitty thunderstorm. If that's too tough.... just steer it clear of populated areas so as to minimize damage. What? You can't do that? You can't alter the course or duration of ONE little bitty storm yet you are arrogant enough to want us to buy the notion we can somehow affect the climate of the entire planet?
While we can terraform the Earth, reshape coast lines and do a number of other interesting things... we're not yet omnipotent enough to affect climate much beyond the micro level. Take Dallas/Fort Worth for example. In the winter it rarely snows here even though it may snow all around the metroplex. Why? Micro-climate. We've altered the natural terrain enough so as to capture more of the suns energy in our roads, parking lots and buildings. This captured heat keeps the air around it slightly warmer which makes meaningful snowfall fairly difficult. The Dallas area usually gets freezing rain or drizzle rather than snow.... until such time as those heat sink surfaces have cooled enough to minimize the impact on the local micro-climate. Beyond this micro level we have about as much impact on the global climate as a fart in a hurricane.
Okay.... for however many of you are out there reading this... I'll be getting back into the habit of commenting more frequently.... so strap yourselves in....it's going to be a rough ride!
